The 2026 Pokémon World Championships wrapped up with a full weekend of announcements across the franchise, yet the one update many fans were actually hoping for never showed up.

That absence has left "Pokémon Winds and Waves" fans stuck waiting even longer for their next real look at the upcoming games.

'Pokémon Winds and Waves' Update Is Sad For Fans

The Pokémon World Championships have become one of the biggest annual events on the calendar, bringing players together for competition while also giving The Pokémon Company a stage to showcase what is next for the franchise.

With "Pokémon Winds and Waves" still looming as the next major mainline release, there was plenty of reason to expect Worlds 2026 might finally offer something new about the games.

However, that did not happen. The event was not exactly empty-handed when it came to franchise news, covering everything from the end of competitive "Pokémon Unite" to Armored Mewtwo's return in "Pokémon GO" and a brand-new movie in the franchise called "Pokémon: Wild Card."

"Pokémon Winds and Waves," however, was left off the stage entirely, leaving fans who tuned in specifically hoping for a trailer or fresh details walking away disappointed.

Pokémon World Championships Didn't Mention a Thing

The closing ceremony in San Francisco covered a wide range of announcements instead. Tsunekazu Ishihara revealed "Pokémon: Wild Card," a theatrical movie set for 2027 centered on a Trading Card Game player and Mimikyu.

Armored Mewtwo is confirmed to return to "Pokemon GO" five-star raids on September 5 and 6, while "Pokémon Champions" is set to introduce Z Mega Evolutions on September 9, including Mega Lucario Z, Mega Garchomp Z, and Mega Absol Z.

According to GameRant, none of that coverage extended to "Pokémon Winds and Waves." This adds credibility to a rumor that has circulated since Pokémon Day in February, when the games were first revealed with only a vague 2027 release window attached.

Several leakers had claimed there would be no concrete "Winds and Waves" news between that reveal and Pokémon Day 2027, and Worlds represented the biggest remaining chance on the 2026 calendar to prove that rumor wrong. Instead, the silence only reinforced it further.

When Is the Next 'Winds and Waves' Update?

With Worlds now behind them, fans are left circling Pokémon Day 2027, traditionally held on February 27, as the most likely point for the next real update.

That timing lines up with a report from leaker Riddler Khu earlier this year, who claimed "Pokémon Winds and Waves" would not receive any further news or updates throughout the remainder of 2026. The insider is instead pointing toward a late 2027 launch window for the games themselves.

Nothing about this silence is outright confirmation that the games will stay completely quiet until February. The Pokémon Company could still announce something before then, whether through a surprise reveal or another showcase entirely separate from Pokémon Day.

Even so, it is worth noting that the disappointing update does suggest Game Freak may currently be more focused on finishing the game internally than marketing it publicly, leaving fans with little choice but to keep waiting for whatever comes next.
