Marvel Studios has unveiled the cast for its new "X-Men" film, confirming a lineup of young mutants alongside a returning MCU actor in the role of the film's villain.

At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that Christopher Abbott will play Professor Charles Xavier, joining previously reported cast member Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. They are joined by Kit Connor as Scott Summers, known as Cyclops; Samara Weaving as Emma Frost; Inde Navarrette as Rogue; and Maya Boyd as Storm.

Adam Driver appeared via a recorded video message to reveal his role in the film, playing the villain Mister Sinister, known in the comics as Nathaniel Essex. The film is directed by Jake Schreier, who previously directed "Thunderbolts."

According to Marvel's official announcement, the new "X-Men" film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2028. The cast reveal followed months of speculation and casting reports; Sink's casting as Jean Grey had already been confirmed through her debut in "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" earlier this summer.

Navarrette, who broke out in the film "Obsession," and Boyd, a Broadway veteran of "& Juliet," round out the ensemble alongside more established names. Abbott previously appeared in "Girls" and "Wolfman" and earned a Tony nomination for "Death of a Salesman."

The new "X-Men" cast arrives alongside the return of earlier "X-Men" film franchise actors — including Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto — who are set to appear in this year's "Avengers: Doomsday" before the new team's own film. Marvel has not yet detailed how the studio plans to connect the two "X-Men" iterations on screen.
